This is a well kept church, the building is clean and pretty. They have the children bring up the offeratory envelopes, which I think is really nice and a great way to include the children. The people of this parish are very friendly and welcoming. But, I wish I could say the same about the priest. He is dismissive to the point of being rude. I hate to speak ill of a man of the cloth but I have never encountered a priest who made me feel as if I did not matter or belong in the church. This priest makes you feel at best like you are a fly buzzing around him whom he has to acknowlege and then swat away. I am trying to get my son baptized and aside from becoming a registered member and attending Church for a couple of months, he wants an introduction after mass. Those would be very reasonable requests, if it not for the fact that they refuse to remember who I am. Despite introducing myself a few times to this man, as well as shaking his hand every single week after mass, he insists that I have not introduced myself and he does not remember me. They will not set a baptismal date until he has "met" me. Somehow, the beautiful sacrament of baptism, which we were all excited about has turned into a crazy and frustrating run around. All I want is for my son to be able to outwardly accept Jesus and for us to further our journey in knowing God. I feel as if this priest does not care about my son's salvation or our thirst to know God and do what he has commanded. Unfortunately I feel forced to have my son baptized in a town 40 minutes away, just to be able to celebrate this sacrament the way I feel it should be, as well as attend church every week in a church where the priest makes an effort to know us and guide us to Christ.

  • This is a beautiful church and the priest could not be any better!! I have never had an issue with any sacraments that my children have had, ever! He has great memory, always remembers you and everyone in your family, to the point where he would ask where my husband or kids are if we are not all together at the same mass! That speaks volumes about him and the devotion he has towards his community.

Sadly some people, like one of the reviews says "expect the church to be like a fast food chain, and get fast service whenever they feel like it" I agree!! You have got to take the necessary steps to complete any sacrament and if you're not willing to take those steps (which is nothing if you stop and think what you're receiving) then maybe you should take a step back and receive the Sacraments when your heart is ready.

Another thing we shouldn't do as a Catholic community is speak Ill of others, especially our priest who selflessly and willingly gave up being a common man to be a man of God. I love this parish and am so happy to have such a wonderful priest like Fr Victor there!

  • I have not attended all of the churches in this parish, but I have had the pleasure on many occasions to attend mass and special events at the Mountain Home church. Father Victor is incredibly intelligent and a meticulous person that pays great attention to detail in his homily and the mass. He is very straightforward in his teachings and is focused on educating his parish in the Catechism. Though it is not my home parish, I love the opportunity to visit this church for Sunday mass.

  • I had my children's baptism and it was a breeze. I took the classes. I did not just come to church for two months and then disappeared and came back to get my children's baptism like the disgruntled, so-called parishioner below. I did not demand baptism when I want it done.

People nowadays think that churches are like fast food chains - they want service when they want it, how they want it. It is sad. I think that grumpy lady who wrote the review below mine was good riddance, haha.

OLGC is wonderful parish. We just moved here and I can say that Our Lady of Good Counsel is a breath of fresh air.
